INSTRUCTIONS FOR HEAT SEAL APPLICATION
(Excluding 35 and 45 series items)

  • Heat seal machine required

  • Pressure: 60 lbs. per square inch (psi)

  • Temperature:        Min 325° F (148° Celsius), Max 350° F (162° C)

  • Dwell time:            15-30 seconds, depending upon type of fabric and whether machine applies top only or top and bottom heat.

  • Can be applied with either top or bottom heat.  Top and bottom heat is preferable, but not always necessary.  You may not increase heat past 350° F (162° C) or the heat seal film will crystallize and not bond properly.  We suggest a wash test prior to all production.
    This will:
    Determine dwell time
Insure that your machine is operating properly

  • NOTE:  When using release tape items, follow the procedures below:

Separate the two layers of release tape.  Discard the bottom part.  Place the sticky part with the applique attached onto desired position on the garment sticky side down.  heat seal over tape.  Allow applique and tape to cool completely.  Peel tape off and discard.

  • If appliques are being applied to finished garments, particularly denim, it is imperative that you wash test after application to be sure that seams have not interfered with the heat seal machine's ability to deliver both heat and pressure to applique.  Pressure is as important as heat in properly applying a heat seal applique.

35 & 45 SERIES ITEMS HEAT SEAL APPLICATION

Heat seal machine required.

Instructions:

  • Remove plastic backing from clear film.

  • Place applique on garment with adhesive side down.  For delicate fabrics, a clean light covering cloth may be placed over the applique prior to heat setting.

  • You are now ready to heat transfer.  Please be sure pressure and temperature are adjusted correctly. (See table below for temperature, pressure and dwell time).

  • After applying heat, let cool and remove clear film from applique.

  • After removing clear film, reapply heat for a second time. (see table below).

  • Your transfer should now be permanently sealed to the garment or fabric.  It is now machine washable, machine dryable and dry-cleanable.

Additional Information:

  • When working with a delicate fabric, insert protective pad inside garment.

  • If working with a covering cloth, please be sure to appl cloth after removing clear film before reapplying heat for second time.

  • Pre-test dark colors for non-reactive dyed fabrics for color change from heat.

  • If appliques are being applied to finished garments, particularly denim, it is imperative that you wash test after application to be sure that seams have not interfered with the heat seal machine's ability to deliver both heat and pressure to applique.   Pressure is as important as heat in properly applying a heat seal applique.
